The Story of Good Friday – Monologue

Good Friday marks the day

Jesus Christ was crucified.

According to the Gospels:

After the Last Supper

on Thursday evening,

Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane,

where He was betrayed by Judas and arrested.

He was brought before various religious

and political authorities—

Caiaphas the high priest,

Herod, and Pontius Pilate.

Though Pilate found no guilt in Him,

he bowed to the pressure of the crowd

and sentenced Jesus to death by crucifixion.

Jesus was beaten,

mocked, crowned with thorns,

and forced to carry His cross to Golgotha,

the place of the skull.

There, He was nailed to the cross between two criminals.

Darkness covered the land for three hours.

In His final moments,

Jesus cried out, “It is finished,”

and gave up His spirit.

At the moment of His death,

the temple curtain tore in two,

symbolizing the new access to

God now made possible.

Good Friday is called “good”

because through Jesus’ suffering

and death,

salvation was made possible

for all who believe.

Lyrics – Michael Forty
